Explore this ideaBarberTech SN — Connected Barbers & Salons
Booking and digital management platform for Senegalese barbers and hair salons, with customer loyalty, integrated Wave payment, and online professional training.
The Problem
Senegalese barbers and hair salons still manage their business entirely by hand: appointments taken by phone or in person, no client tracking, cash collection with no traceability, and zero online visibility. Clients waste time waiting without knowing if their barber is available. Talented hairdressers have no way to differentiate online and remain confined to their neighborhood clientele despite skills that deserve much wider visibility.
The Opportunity
Senegal has over 15,000 hair salons and barbers, a sector representing hundreds of billions FCFA in annual revenue. Senegalese Generation Z (20-35 years) books appointments on Instagram but wants a dedicated tool. The salon management software market in Africa is virtually non-existent while hairdressers' demand for digitization is strong and growing.
The Concept
BarberTech SN is a double-sided mobile app: on the client side, discover neighborhood barbers and salons with their portfolio photos, rates, and real-time availability, and book in 1 click with WhatsApp confirmation. On the professional side, the barber manages their schedule, collects via Wave at the end of each service, tracks their client history, and receives automatic loyalty reminders. A video training library (cutting techniques, business management) is accessible by subscription at 5,000 FCFA/month. BarberTech takes 8% commission on each online-paid booking.
The "Secret Sauce" (USP)
- Instagram-like photo portfolio: the client sees the barber's real work before booking — end of 'I didn't know he cut so well' which is the main friction in acquiring new clients
- Automatic loyalty reminder: 'It's been 3 weeks, your next cut at Moussa's?' sent via WhatsApp — 35% increased client return rate with no effort from the professional
- Integrated video training: the barber improves their skills from their phone between clients — the first continuous training tool accessible at 5,000 FCFA/month for African hairdressers
