Explore this ideaDiekolé — Healthy Local Snacks
Artisanal transformation of local fruits and grains into packaged, healthy, ready-to-eat snacks for urban Senegalese consumers.
The Problem
Urban Senegalese increasingly consume imported snacks (chips, biscuits) at the expense of their health and local producers. There are very few locally packaged, hygienic, and modern snacks on the market. Local products like ditax, baobab, or roasted corn have not yet been valorized to their full potential.
The Opportunity
The snack market in West Africa is growing at 12% per year. The global trend toward 'local and healthy' creates strong demand among African middle classes. Export to the African diaspora in Europe and the USA represents a significant additional outlet.
The Concept
Diekolé produces a range of snacks made from 100% Senegalese ingredients: plantain chips, millet and baobab energy bars, spiced cassava sticks, shea butter popcorn. Products are packaged in modern sachets with clear nutritional labeling. Distribution is through supermarkets, gas stations, school canteens, and an online store. Communication relies on local terroir storytelling and local influencers.
The "Secret Sauce" (USP)
- Certified authenticity: 100% traced local ingredients, highlighting partner farmers on each package
- Modern premium packaging that rivals imported brands while proudly celebrating African identity
- Range tailored to different segments: children, athletes, urban workers — with nutritionist-validated healthy recipes
Minimum Viable Product (MVP)
To get started quickly:Launch 3 SKUs (plantain chips, baobab-millet bar, spiced cassava), produce 500 sachets of each, test in 5 Dakar supermarkets and 2 school canteens for 2 months.
