DokiLearn — Peer Tutoring Platform

Online tutoring marketplace connecting top African students with struggling high school and university students, in local languages and French.

Problem

The Problem

In Senegal, the failure rate at BFEM and BAC exams exceeds 60% per year, due to insufficient access to affordable private tutoring. Middle-income families cannot afford private teachers at 15,000-30,000 FCFA/hour. Overcrowded lectures do not allow individual follow-up of struggling students.

Opportunity

The Opportunity

The online tutoring market in Africa is estimated at $500M in 2026. Thousands of top students at FASEG, UCAD, or ESP are looking for supplementary income. The democratization of smartphones and 4G makes video tutoring accessible even in peri-urban areas.

The Concept

DokiLearn is a web and mobile platform where student tutors (verified by their academic results) offer individual or small group sessions via video. Rates range from 2,000 to 8,000 FCFA/hour, making tutoring 3 to 5 times more affordable. The platform takes a 20% commission. Recorded content (lesson videos, corrected exercises) is available by subscription. The service is accessible in French and Wolof to break the language barrier.

The "Secret Sauce" (USP)

  • Verified and ranked tutors: only students with an average ≥ 14/20 can register as tutors, ensuring quality
  • Affordable pricing: 2,000-8,000 FCFA/hour vs 15,000-30,000 FCFA for a traditional private teacher
  • Content in Wolof: first tutoring service integrating the national language to maximize student comprehension
