WaxuPay — Digital Tontine

Digital platform for managing tontines and collective savings for Africans, with secured funds and integrated financial scoring.

Problem

The Problem

Tontines (njangi, likelembas, xalis) are the primary form of savings in Sub-Saharan Africa, but they remain informal, risky, and untraceable. Members absconding with collective funds, management disputes, and lack of financial data prevent access to formal credit. Millions of women entrepreneurs are excluded from the banking system due to lack of financial history.

Opportunity

The Opportunity

Over 50% of Africans participate in a tontine. Digitizing this system creates financial history that banks and fintech partners can value. The African mobile payments market exceeds $700 billion and tontines are a natural entry point into financial services.

The Concept

WaxuPay lets any group create their digital tontine in a few clicks: defining rules, amount, frequency, beneficiary order. Contributions are collected automatically via Wave, Orange Money, or bank card. Funds are held in escrow until the payout date. Each member receives a WaxuScore reliability score based on their payment history, usable as a credit file with financial partners.

The "Secret Sauce" (USP)

  • WaxuScore: the first credit score based on tontine participation, opening microcredit access for the unbanked
  • Funds held in escrow via licensed banking partner: zero risk of fund disappearance, maximum trust
  • Community referral network: every active group naturally becomes a platform ambassador

Minimum Viable Product (MVP)

To get started quickly:
