The Problem

Senegalese diaspora members pay an average of 7 to 12% in fees on every money transfer to Senegal via Western Union, MoneyGram, or traditional banks. On the 1,200 billion FCFA sent annually, this represents over 80 billion FCFA in fees captured by foreign intermediaries. Transfer delays reach 3 to 5 business days for bank wires and exchange rates are systematically unfavorable to senders.

The Senegalese diaspora sends over 1,200 billion FCFA per year, representing 10% of Senegal's GDP — the corridor is one of the most important in Sub-Saharan Africa. European PSD2 regulation and the rise of remittance fintechs (Wise, Sendwave) have proven that fees can be reduced below 1% while remaining profitable. Wave and Orange Money now cover 90% of Senegalese communes, making cash distribution entirely digital.

The Concept

RemitX lets a Senegalese person in France or the USA send money to Senegal in under 10 minutes at fixed fees of 0.5% (capped at 2,500 FCFA regardless of amount) via a mobile app. The recipient receives funds directly to Wave or Orange Money. RemitX optimizes its exchange rate via a liquidity aggregation algorithm between partner banks (BCEAO, CFA). A group mode allows a diaspora tontine to collectively send to multiple recipients in a single transaction. A RemitX Premium account at €5/month offers unlimited transfers and institutional exchange rates.
